All five island boards have agreed to stay open today despite the heavy snowfall. It looks like the snow is finished and it is expected to be -4C this afternoon. The bus companies stated that there will probably be many delays, but it is safe to roll out the buses.

NEW DIRECTOR GENERAL: Ann Marie Matheson has been appointed the new Director General of the English Montreal School Board, succeeding Robert Stocker who stepped down last month and now serves as a senior advisor. Ann Marie Matheson Ms. Matheson’s connection to the EMSB dates back to the beginning of her 23 year career in education. As a member of the Student Services Department of the former Montreal Catholic School Board (MCSC), she was directly involved with programs meant to reduce absenteeism and increase student success rates in all high schools, including St. Raphael, St Pius X and Paul VI schools. For three years, from 2011 to 2014, Ms. Matheson was an EMSB commissioner for Ahuntsic. Additionally, Ms. Matheson served as the International Baccalaureate Program Coordinator at Marymount Academy International in its founding years and was on loan-of-service to the Ministry of Education and had responsibility for the École Montréalaise Program in English schools – 19
MONTREAL, NOVEMBER 13, 2015- English Montreal School Board Director General Ann Marie Matheson has instructed staff to proceed with plans for the December 13 commissioner by-election in the Côte Saint-Luc-Hampstead district. On November 11 Quebec Minister of Education François Blais tabled a bill aimed at halting commissioner by-elections like the one being held at the EMSB in Cote St Luc – Hampstead in December. But the bill was neither passed nor defeated. Everyone is just waiting for a decision. “With advance polling scheduled for December 6, we don’t have time for any delays,” said Ms. Matheson. “Until we are told otherwise, we must presume that the election will take place.” EMSB Chairman Angela Mancini said it is unclear whether this bill will be adopted before the National Assembly concludes its fall session. “It is absolutely unfair for the candidates to be left hanging like this,” she said. “We certainly owe it to them and to the electorate to ensure th
