PQ Minister Jean-François Lisée to meet with English School Board Chairs

When the new Parti Quebecois government assumed power in early September, we wished Premier Pauline Marois well in her mandate.

We also commented on the appointment of Jean-François Lisée as minister responsible for Montreal and the anglophone community.  Here was my message: “We are anxious to sit down with M. Lisée to see what concrete action his government will take to nurture relations with anglophones. Between 2007 and 2017, the EMSB is projected to lose over 4,600 or 20 percent of our students while the francophone school boards on the Island of Montreal will increase by 18,000 or 13 percent over the same period. A lot of damage has been done to our English system.”

Jean-François Lisée
Last Friday I received a telephone call from Mr. Lisée's office requesting a meeting with myself and  Suanne Stein Day, my counterpart at the Lester B. Pearson School Board. I must say that we were very pleased by this invitation. We will be meeting with Mr. Lisée at the EMSB headquarters on Fielding Avenue in N.D.G. on Monday afternoon, October 1.

Mr. Lisée is also the newly elected MNA for Rosemount, which is part of the EMSB territory.

Here is a copy of the press release we issued after the election.
